The matrix is a 1999 Austrailian-Americain science fiction action film The film depicts a future in which reality as perceived by most humans is actually a simulated reality to pacify and subdue the human population, while their and electrical activity are used as an energy source. Upon learning this, computer programmer"Neo" is drawn into a rebellion against the machines, involving other people who have been freed from the "dream world" and into reality.
I like this film because there's always something going on there's never a boring bit of this film also becuase in their reality world "The Matrix" it actully feels like your in the world and it really captures you and you want to watch on to see what happens to the main characters. At first viewing, the action sequences stun, but there's more to this than the groundbreaking "bullet time" photography, or the adolescent allure of flash, black clothes and big, black guns. What is "The Matrix"? It's genius. And yes, we admit, you do have to see it for yourself.

Production
The matrix was directed by Larry Wachowski and Andy Wachowski who also directed the 1996 film Bound and the 2008 film Speed Racer. There were some big names who starred in this film names such as: The main character "Neo"s actor Keanu Reeves who has also starred in big blockbuster films (2008: The day the earth stood still.) Also the leading female role "Trinity" is played by actor Carrie-Ann-Moss who has starred in some big name movies aswell such as 2000: The Crew and 2007: Disturbia but there was also big names in this movie like Hugo Weaving, Joe Pantoliano and Laurence Fishburne.
The Matrix was a co-production of Warner brothers and Australian Village Roadshow Pictures, and all but a few scenes were filmed at Fox Studios in Sydney, Australia, and in the city itself. Recognizable landmarks were not included in order to maintain the setting of a generic American city.
Actor Will Smith turned down the role of Neo to make Wild Wild West, due to skepticism over the film's ambitious bullet time special effects. He later stated that he was "not mature enough as an actor" at that time, and that if given the role, he "would have messed it up". Nicolas Cage also turned down the role because of "family obligations". Prior to the casting of Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock turned down the role of Trinity because she didn't see herself working with the actor then being considered to play Neo. Sean Connery also respectfully declined the role of Morpheus.
The rooftop set that Trinity uses to escape from Agent Jones early in the film was leftover from the production of Dark City, which has been remarked upon due to the thematic similarities of the films. According to The art of Matrix, at least one filmed scene and a variety of short pieces of action were omitted from the final cut, and have (to date) not been published.

Keanu Reeves Interview
'The Matrix premire was in LA and the main charcters were on the red carpet so they could screen it .
One of the first questions asked of Keanu was his approach to fame as well as the huge fan support for the films."I don't seek it out really. The Brothers will talk about it sometimes, they're really appreciative of it. They really enjoy the excitement, everyone enjoys the excitement. We all really enjoy the project and so it's great when other people dig it as well."
Reeves has transformed himself physically over the past several years and has become adept at the wire work necessary to be Neo. He discussed what it took to get ready for the next Matrix. "It took a lot of training, the usual four or five months before and then the usual training while shooting. I would have a fight, do some acting, and then choreography would come in and then train with the actors. It's demanding, but it's also one of my favorite parts of the piece. I would more proficient with the wire work. I was able to catch on to choreography much quicker. When they would come in with the choreography with the fights, I would just pick it up. I guess just because my body had the memory of those kinds of movements and knew how to absorb them.
"The fight that was all of the Smiths was a lot of moves. I got to work with twelve of the stuntmen and so for three weeks we just did that fight. And the other thing was just trying to learn the weapons, there was a lot of different weapons, the sais, the swords, the sticks."
Why is The Matrix Reloaded coming out now, 4 years after the first film? "They had to write it, they had a little bit of pre-production to do (laughs) and I think it took some time after the first one, especially for the Brothers, to come back and be able to write it. It was a hard endeavor."'

The Matrix made a huge $171 million in the United States but it made a massive $460 MIllion world wide
This is just an extract from part of the review of The Matrix from the famous Empire magazine:
Get this: what if all we know as reality was, in fact, virtual reality? Reality itself is a ravaged dystopia run by technocrat Artificial Intelligence where humankind vegetates in billions of gloop-filled tanks - mere battery packs for the machineworld - being fed this late '90s VR (known as The Matrix - you with us here?) through an ugly great cable stuck in the back of our heads. And what if there was a group of quasi-spiritual rebels infiltrating The Matrix with the sole purpose of crashing the ruddy great mainframe and rescuing humans from their unknown purgatory? And, hey, what if Keanu Reeves was their Messiah?
What sounds like some web freak's wet dream is, in fact, a dazzlingly nifty slice of sci-fi cool. The Wachowski Brothers (Andy and Larry - last seen dabbling in kinky lesbian noir with the excellent Bound) pulling off something like a million masterstrokes all at once. Taking the imprimatur of the video game, they meld the grungy noir of Blade Runner, the hyperkinetic energies of chopsocky, John Woo hardware and grandiose spiritual overtones into William Gibson's cyberpunk ethos to produce a new aesthetic for the millennium powered to the thudding beat of techno. And it is just incredible fun. The key is the technique of "flo-mo", a process born from Japanese animation, whereby an object in motion is seemingly frozen while the camera miraculously spins around it as if time and gravity are on hold. It grants the action (including some killer kung fu which Reeves and crew spent months perfecting) liberty to take on surreal visual highs. Superhuman feats permissible, of course, in the context of VR as the rebels download Herculean "talents" to fuel their subterfuge. Meanwhile, the audience can only gawp longingly, with its jaws thunking to the cinema floor in unison, as the heroes wrapped in skintight leather, sleek shades and designer cheekbones, spin up walls, leap from high rises and slip through streams of bullets in silken slo-mo. Tron this ain't.

Sure, "The Matrix" is almost untenably cool, but beneath the sheen there's substance. The story's a potent mix of buddhism, Greek mythology, and - predominantly - the Christian gospel.
The image of a superficial existence, where ignorant people thrive by blocking out a troublesome reality, is potent for a Western society drowning in wealth while the rest of the world suffers.
The performances, too, wow. Admittedly Reeves is gifted the perfect role - he has to look good while hitting things - but Moss is charismatic, clever and sexy, while Fishburne is monumental.
Nestling next to "The Terminator" and "Metropolis", this is one the finest sci-fi flicks ever made.
What is "The Matrix"? It's genius. And yes, we admit, you do have to see it for yourself.
The matrix was the first ever film to sell over 1 million copies in the United States

360-750 Word Essay
The Matrix Bank Vault Shotout:
At the beginning of my sequence the camera starts of with a worm eye view of the main characters (Neo-The chosen one) steel cap boot to look like he is going to get into a fight, also all the colours are black or grey miserable colours. Then after you get an over the shoulder view of Neo and you can see him just about to walk through the metal detector with some people who we are believed to be security guards and we know that because we can see the classic blue top, dark blue hat and there badges. So as Neo walks closer to the metal detector the camera pans down then you see him put his hand luggage into a metal detector.
As Neo steps through it the red lights flashes and it does a continous buzzing sound to alert the security guards, then the camera pans down to a close up of Neos face, then the camera changes to a medium shot of both Neo and one of the security guards. Neo opens his 'clock' and there are loads of different guns all attached to one another. Straight after the security guard sees this he says "holy sh," the camera cross cuts between the other security guards back to the original one while this is happening the music creates tention. Then as you see the body land you get a medium view of Neo holding to guns and he's shooting them in two different directions, then you get different views of the guards Neo has just shot then he spins behind a wall. Then after that you get another medium view of a different security guard crouching requesting for back up. As soon he finished his sentence the lead female (Trinity) walks through the metal detector then you hear that bleeping sound again then it turns to a long shot of Trinity walking closer to the security guard the she just lifts up her gun and it cross cuts between that security guard crouching with a phone in one hand an a gun in the other pointing towards the camera, back to Trinity who shots him up and down his body.
Then you get a birds eye view of bothe Neo and Trinity walking to the center of the bank with 3 dead bodies on one side of the room and one on the other side, and then the camera goes back down to the hand luggage metal detector then pans straight back up as you see Trinity pick up the bag.
Then Trinaty is walking with the bag who is then joined by Neo who gets rid of his old guns and gets out two new fresh ones. Then the camera goes back down to a worms eye view of a lot of men running, as they finished running the camera changes to a long shot of a part of the bank where all the men who you find out are SWAT men sprint behind some of the collums in the center of the lobby, which is then followed by the camera paning to the left to show all the SWAT men with there guns. Then you get a close up with a man holding a shot gun who then shouts out "FREEZE!" Then you geta medium shot of Neo and Trinity who look at each other then look at the man again.
Neo and Trinity just run behind some collums whist being shot at by the SWAT men then the camera just cross cuts between one man shooting to Neo running and shooting to a load of men shooting then back to Neo who runs past a collum whist shooting at a man with a shot gun and the camera goes from Neo to the man with the shot gun back to Neo.
Then Neo hides behind a collum and a close up of him to show him getting two more different guns out. Then you get a medium view of Trinity who runs up a wall and then flips off of it and whilst in mid-air the camera changes to an over the shoulder view of the men shooting in front of her. The effects are really good here because she runs up the wall and does a side flip of of it but you can't see the wires or nothing it looks so real. As she lands upbeat music starts to come in to my sequence, then Trinity runs behind a collum the you get a very quick over the shoulder shot before she starts to run away agian which leads her getting into a fist fight with one of the men which is interupted by another man with a gun.
Then it goes to an over the shoulder view of Neo who runs out through the middle of the lobby shooting in all different directions and the effects arealso good here because the music slows down to give an effect that time is also slowing down. Then you get a worms eye view and you can see all of Neos bullets hitting the floor after firing them, which cross cuts between the floor with Neos bullets on there, Neo shooting bullets and all the guards Neo is killing. Then as you are watching Neo running he runs past Trinity who then the camrea follows to when she disarms a Swat member and kills him with his own gun. Then the camera goes back on to Neo then it looks like time is slowing down again whilst he is running past collums firing bullets which you can hear have been slowed down again good effects, as you see Neo running he does a cartwheel in the middleof two collums and picks a gun on the floor and does another cartwheel which kills the rest of the guards then the last sight is a close up of Neos face.
